Next Generation Luminaires Design Competition

Application Categories

Entries will be judged by application category. Some categories may be combined for judging depending on the number of entries. Not all categories receive recognition or awards. Application categories include but are not limited to those in the table below. NGL reserves the right to re-assign luminaires to different categoriesNGL welcomes questions about the appropriate category for any submission; entrants should feel free to email ngl@pnnl.gov for questions or clarifications.

Parking and Area Lighting
  • Pole-mounted parking luminaires –

Pedestrian/Walkway Lighting
  • Pole-mounted pedestrian scale luminaires – 12' mounting height

  • Indicator or way-finding in-ground or surface-mounted luminaires
Building Entry, Safety, and Egress Lighting
  • Wall-mounted, pedestrian-scale, area lighting luminaires ("wall-packs")
  • Canopy lighting luminaires designed to light area underneath an exterior canopy
Façade/Structure Accent Lighting
  • Floodlights designed to provide a uniform "wash" of light over a vertical surface, e.g., a building facade
  • Structure-mounted luminaires designed to provide a uniform "wash" of light over a vertical surface
  • Accent lighting luminaires designed to highlight elements on a vertical surface
Landscape and Grounds Lighting
  • Path lighting luminaires for lighting landscaped and grounds pathways
  • Accent lighting luminaires for lighting landscape features
  • Submersible luminaires for underwater lighting or lighting water features
Decorative Exterior Lighting
  • Luminaires intended for decorative accent as well as functional lighting, such as wall sconces, pole-mounted decorative (not 'street scape' luminaires included under roadway lighting), and suspended luminaires.
Other (including solar)
  • Solar
  • Luminaires that do not fit in other categories
