Next Generation Lighting Systems Competition

2017 NGLS Connected Lighting Competitions

For nearly a decade, the Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) design competition has encouraged and recognized excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination lighting. Originally launched in May 2008, the competition has recognized hundreds of well-designed, energy-efficient, and attractive commercial solid state lighting products. In 2017, the NGL design competition transitioned its focus from luminaires to lighting systems. The new NGLS features an exclusive and ongoing focus on connected lighting systems, as well as an expanded process that involves installations in real-world settings and greater interaction among entrants, judges, and host sites.

Current Evaluations

As of mid-FY18, twelve different connected lighting systems, all designed by different manufacturers to be easy to install and configure, have been installed in classrooms at The New School, Parsons School of Design in New York City.
